Learning more about Karelia
3The watching of the film “Karelia. A Bird’s Eye View” took place in the Foreign Languages Literature Section of PetrSU Scientific Library. Such an event was aimed at the international students and had a goal of their acquaintance with the history of the Republic of Karelia and its capital – the wonderful Petrozavodsk city. The students from the Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were active guests at the meeting.




4In anticipation of Mother’s day the international students and PetrSU staff gathered in PetrSU creative laboratory for the lesson of wool-milling. During the first lesson the students got acquainted with the technology of wool moulding, working with felt and making the accessories of milled wool. The lesson resulted in breastpin flowers which can be an unusual and dear present for a mother.




National Cuisine Meeting
4At the end of November people from the USA celebrate Thanksgiving Day – a holiday that gives a start to Christmas and New Year celebrations. One of the traditions of that day is a dinner in a family circle. But the majority of PetrSU international students is staying at this time in Petrozavodsk learning the Russian language or studying at the university faculties and institutes.




The Russian Language as a Step to the Diplomatic Career (Mikulas)
MikulasBillboards, leaflets, café menus, shop signs, newspaper and the Internet articles, music – all these things are additional “manual” of studying Russian for Mikulas Zvara.




International Students' Day
3November, 17 is traditionally celebrated all over the world as the International Students' Day. Here is Anatoly Voronin’s, our rector, address to all Petrozavodsk State University students.




I Study to Become a Professional (Aleksandr)
AleksandrAleksandr Shumikhin is a student of “International Policy Studies” course at International University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan). He came to Petrozavodsk State University as an exchange student and is studying at the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences for five months. We have learnt about his studies, plans and hobbies from Aleksandr himself.




A Joyful Long Weekend
 1The end of the previous week was full of events in Petrozavodsk and the weekend lasted for four days. There was so much to do for the students during those days.




I Want to Take the Atmosphere of this Town back Home (Kristina)
1“A year ago when I had just started studying Russian I felt as if I was in the first grade. This is because I had to study the alphabet and to learn to read again. At first I studied letters and spelled the words but managed it all very slowly,” – recollects Kristina Pankova who has been studying at the faculty of Philology for the whole autumn semester.




Open University Lectures
1This fall the Open University of PetrSU invites everyone to attend the video courses and lectures devoted to world culture and local history. It is a great opportunity for the foreign students of PetrSU to learn more about the country and the republic where they are currently living and studying at.




From Halifax to Petrozavodsk for the Karelian Language
LloydCanadian student Richard Lloyd Christoph Morin is a participant of the Finnish-Russian Student Exchange Program FIRST. He is getting a Master’s degree at the University of Joensuu. He came to Karelia and Petrozavodsk State University to collect the materials for his research on the reasons for studying Karelian in Karelia and Finland.
