Russian Culture Day
Russian Culture DayOn Friday, August 8th , the traditional Russian Culture Day gathered the foreign students who had been studying at the Summer Russian Language School for more than a month and those who came recently. While playing the game “Snow Ball”, the students got acquainted with each other. According to the rules of the game, each student tells his name and an adjective that begins with the first letter of his name. The next one repeats the students name and adjective and tells his own. At the end, the last student repeats all names and adjectives. As a result, artistic and adventurous, active and hungry, talented and lazy, beautiful and young students got acquainted with each other in such a funny manner.




August at the Russian Language Summer School
1In August the Russian Language Summer School at PetrSU welcomed new students from Great Britain, Spain, Serbia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Iran and the USA. All the students came to Petrozavodsk to improve their skills in grammar and speech during the classes with professional teaches of the Russian language.




The second International Summer Architectural School at PetrSU
1The second International Summer Architectural School was held at the premises of the sports and health camp “Shotozero” from July, 16 till July, 31.




Birmingham Farewell
1Without doubt that was an unforgettable month for the group of students from the University of Birmingham, the UK, who came to the Summer University of Petrozavodsk State University on for the month-long Russian language course!




Festival of Russian Culture
1On Friday, July 11, 25 foreign students from Great Britain, Spain, Turkey, Greece, USA, China, and Finland gathered together to celebrate the Festival of Russian Culture. This traditional event is held annually by the teachers of Russian language in PetrSU.




Bringing Birmingham to the Kizhi
1At the end of June the students from the University of Birmingham had a great opportunity to visit the most famous and unique symbol of the Russian north – the Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography.




Various People – the Same University!
1People from different parts of the world come to PetrSU to study for a wide range of purposes. We give the floor to Kevin Gledhill, a student from the USA, to tell about his experience and aims for studying here at Petrozavodsk.
“When I arrived at the beginning of the Summer Russian Program at PetrSU, I needed urgently to make up ground in my ability to speak and read Russian. Having struggled for two years to find funding for intensive study in Russia, I needed to quickly obtain some level of speaking proficiency and significantly improve my reading this summer




Studying Done, Have You Fun!
1Though it’s the middle of summer, the international students are having busy time at PetrSU. Georgina Rimmer, the group leader of the University of Birmingham students, shares impressions of studying and living at Petrozavodsk.




Tandem Language Program Meeting
1 Tandem program that started at PetrSU two years ago is up-and-coming. This Thursday our new foreign students from the UK met with their Tandem partners.




Englishmen at PetrSU
1It is the 9th time when students from the University of Birmingham (Great Britain) have come to Petrozavodsk. Just as before, the main goal of the youngsters is to study the Russian language and get to know Russian and Karelian culture. Apart from intensive studies, students will have eventful cultural program, which includes Petrozavodsk museums, entertainment activities, visit to the Kizhi and Valaam islands, new acquaintances and many other exciting events.
