A Visit to the Museum of Fine Arts
A Visit to the Museum of Fine ArtsOn the 7th of February, 2014, a personal exhibition of the artist Irina Teremovskaya “My Magical World” was opened at the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia. Among the first guests at the opening ceremony were the students from Norway and Finland who are studying the Russian language at the Institute of International Programs and the exchange students of the Faculty of Industrial and Civil Engineering of PetrSU.




Winter Students International Training Camp in Competitive Programming in PetrSU
International Collegiate Programming ContestFrom 27.01.2014 to 06.02.2014, the winter trainings of the strongest student teams were held in Petrozavodsk State University in order to prepare for the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. There were 49 teams (170 participants) taking part in this event from 32 universities of 9 countries: Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Poland, Slovakia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The trainings have been held since 1998 twice a year, in winter and summer.




A New Course in English
Timo TokalaThe IT-park of PetrSU hosted a meeting with the representatives of the School of Forest Sciences of the University of Eastern Finland, held by the head of the School, Professor Timo Tokala. During the meeting the participants reached an agreement to start a new intensive course in the English language.




Winter activities
Winter entertainmentFrom the mid of January a true Russian winter came to Petrozavodsk. Snow, frost, winter activities: skating, skiing, dog sledding – the town folk has everything for their pleasure.




Triple I student Michela
MichelaWhile most of PetrSU international students are only coming back from their holidays or are just starting their classes, some of the students are finishing the Triple I program and telling goodbye to Petrozavodsk.
Michela has been studying as the Triple I student at PetrSU from September 2013 and now is leaving home.




Back to Studies
PetrSUAs the new year begins and the holidays are over PetrSU students are back to the university. The Russian students are passing their exams and the international students are coming to Petrozavodsk for the first time or coming back
from their Christmas and winter holidays.




Classes are Over
classes are overAs it’s the end of the year, it’s the time for our international students who stay in Russia during the New Year and Christmas vacations to chill for a while.




Christmas party
Christmas partyFor the foreign students of PetrSU the autumn semester traditionally finishes a bit earlier than for the Russian students. As a rule they spend their Christmas and winter holidays at home in their countries. This year is not an exception.




Interview with Jeff Birkenstein: PetrSU is a Great University
Jeff BirkensteinJeff visited Petrozavodsk 3 years ago for the first time. Having received a Fulbright scholarship he decided to come to Petrozavodsk State University again. The professor has been giving lectures to the students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU for the whole autumn semester. Jeff agreed to share his thoughts about his work, literature, and scientific research in Russia with us.




Students from the University of Bologna Choose PetrSU
Michela Michela studies at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature, Interpreting and Translating of the University of Bologna in Italy. She easily mastered her English, German and French at school and she began to study the Russian language at the university. Michela came to Petrozavodsk to study at PetrSU in the framework of the Erasmus Mundus program. She has never been to Russia before.
