Our students (Lee Hancock)
Lee HancockLee came to Russia from the USA. Some time ago he wanted to set up a business in Russia but because of the financial crisis he decided not to take risks and try another adventure – learning the Russian language. So, seven years ago Lee came to the Institute of International Programs of Petrozavodsk State University.
Lee is sure that learning languages at his age is very helpful for brains. Besides, he thinks Russian is a very interesting language to learn. Moreover, every day Lee learns something new about Russia and the Russian people and that helps him to break stereotypes, as his childhood and youth in the USA fell at the time of the Cold War. He says that at those times he could not even imagine himself living in Russia.

Our students (Olivia)
OliviaOlivia Paterson had been in Russia twice before she came to Petrozavodsk. First time she went to Sochi with a group of students from her school eleven years ago. Since then Olivia has become very interested in Russia and the Russian language. She decided to study Russian at the University of Exeter (the UK). Olivia says that there was a strong Russian community in the area where she lived so it also inspired her to study Russian.

On “Kalevala Day” that is celebrated in Karelia and neighbouring Finland, the first night of two operas: «Three Brothers» and «The Reed Pipe» of local composers took place at the State Musical Theatre. The productions made on the basis of folklore motives impressed students with their brightness and singularity.

autumn semester 2012-2013The autumn semester 2012-2013 is at its height! First months of the academic year were full of events.
