Bringing Birmingham to the Kizhi

At the end of June the students from the University of Birmingham had a great opportunity to visit the most famous and unique symbol of the Russian north – the Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography.
The Kizhi is well-known all over the world for the beautiful wooden Church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior, The Church of the Intercession of Holy Mary and the Bell-Tower.
During the visit the British guests could get acquainted with Russian and Karelian wooden architecture, visit peasant houses and observe the traditional crafts demonstrated there. They enjoyed and even took part in the traditional dances that were performed by the Museum folk ensemble.
Also it was a good chance for the students to practice Russian and learn new words! Without doubt the picturesque island, its nature and wooden treasures touched everyone’s feelings!
