On March 16 the Department of the Federal Migration Service of the Republic of Karelia held a meeting for the international students of PetrSU. 26 students from Jordan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia and Afghanistan attended the meeting.
The Deputy Director of the Department of the Federal Migration Service for the Republic of Karelia Roman Toivonen acquainted the students with statistics on foreign citizens in Russia, in particular with the numbers concerning migration registration and work permit. This information is available on-line on the website of the Federal Migration Service. By demand of the students Roman Toivonen showed how the electronic data base on each foreign citizen registered in Karelia looks like. Also, he shortly covered migration registration questions and stressed the importance of informing the Federal Migration Service about students’ departures from Petrozavodsk in a timely manner.
A specialist on labor migration answered the questions on possibilities of work for foreign students in Karelia. A specialist on visa issues told about the transit visa for those who depart long before their visa expires. Roman Toivonen reminded about the penalties and their consequences for the foreign citizens.
At the end of the meeting the students could approach Roman Toivonen and ask him questions in person. According to the students, the meeting turned out to be very useful.
