Hyperborea festival in Petrozavodsk

Do you know that we celebrate Hyperborea festival in Petrozavodsk every year?

That is the international contest of snowy and icy sculptures. You can be a participant or a contemplator. It is up to you!

Interesting fact! The name of the festival was borrowed from ancient Greek mythology, where Boreas was god of the north wind and of winter, “the Hyperboreans were a race of giants who lived beyond the North Wind”. Ancient Greeks believed that the Hyperborea was the country of happy and talented people, and Apollo was their patron. Historians believe that this mysterious northern country was located on the territory of the modern republic of Karelia and the Kola Peninsula.
